Startup Weekend 201560 aspiring entrepreneurs moved from Idea to Action in the 1st Startup Weekend for Central Coast in Sept 2015.
The first Startup Weekend event was held on Sept 18-20 in the Gosford Smart Working Hub. The 54-hour long event involved a creativity-fuelled weekend that provided a platform for participants to develop their technology idea, meet like-minded enthusiasts, build their network, get face time with thought leaders, and learn new skills. 60 aspiring entrepreneurs including students from the UoN and Central Coast Grammar, coders, business people and the unemployed registered to attend the first ever Startup Weekend for the Central Coast. Startup Weekend is a global organisation and the event has been held in over 100 cities across the globe. Fifteen ideas were pitched and 8 teams were formed around the best ideas which were chosen by the participants. The teams collaborated together over the weekend to build the business case for their idea. On the Sunday night they pitched their idea to the panel of judges including Alan Williams (CTO of Blink Mobile) and Bruce Cottrill, two entrepreneurs from the Central Coast and Tony Burrett from Blue Chilli, which partners with entrepreneurs to help build, grow and invest in their new tech startup businesses.
